2023 Community Grants Distributed

The Lone Cone Legacy trust recently handed out checks to our 2023 grantees during a ceremony at the Oliver House in Norwood. 16 organizations benefiting the community received a total of $15,000 in grants this year. We feel great about spreading a little holiday cheer! Applications for the 2024 cycle will be available in Aug./Sept. of 2024.

2023 Harvest Celebration Dinner

The 2023 Harvest Celebration Dinner hosted by the Lone Cone Legacy Trust on October 14th was a huge success! A BIG THANK YOU to all of the people who made our Harvest Celebration Dinner Saturday Night such a rousing success! And a special shout out to our event sponsor, CHFA – Colorado Housing and Finance Authority. Also thanks to Rhonda Oliver for decorations, to all of our vendors: the FRESH Food Hub for locally sourced ingredients at cost, Desserts by Davina, Wild Gal’s Market in Naturita, Blue Grouse Bread, The Divide Restaurant, Dark Sky Pie Pizza, Birdhouse Botanicals, To Walk-In Liquors of Naturita for wine and beer at cost. We couldn't have done it without help from our volunteers, including those from True North Youth Program, to Norwood Fire District for use of their building and equipment.

And finally, thanks to all who purchased tickets, donated to the silent auction and bought pies!! We'll do it again next year!

A bright tomorrow for Wright’s Mesa: The Trust is building a permanent endowment with a goal of $1,000,000 by 2030. Earnings from this fund provide annual grants to support community development projects through community organizations.

This is the first time in history that the communities of Wright’s Mesa have had an endowment to invest 100% in our own future. The Lone Cone Legacy Trust provides a vehicle for anyone and everyone to support the future of our community. Those who live in Wright’s Mesa know it is a special place with unique challenges, and, with your support, we can help secure its future and enrich the lives of the people who live here.

Since the Trust was founded in 2013 by local visionary citizens, over $180,000 has been raised through local donations and events.

These events include the Harvest Celebration, the Annual Car Show, Telluride Gives, match grants and general donations. Five match grants in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022 were successfully met and raised $35,000 alone.

In 2023, a record total of $15,000 in community grants were awarded to the following organizations: Fresh Foundation, Lone Cone Dressage Club, Lone Cone Library, One to One Mentoring, Pinhead Institute, San Miguel Resource Center, and True North Youth Program, Norwood Cemetery, Giggling Goat Farm, Norwood Park and Recreation District, Axis Health Systems, San Miguel Basin Fair, Hoof and Paw, Norwood Nordic, Tri-County Health Network, and Prime Time. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these organizations are sure to make on the Wright’s Mesa community.
